Mindful Self-Compassion, Fall 2023
facilitated by Lindsey Green, MS, and Joel Grow, PhD

Join us for an 8-week in-person course on Mindful Self-Compassion, Tuesday evenings 6:30-8:30pm, October 17th through December 19th (see Schedule, below).

Location and Format:
This class will be offered in-person at the Seattle Mindfulness Center. See Schedule, below.

About MSC:
Developed by Drs. Kristin Neff and Chris Germer, Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an evidence-based program that brings together the skills and practices of mindful awareness, common humanity, and self-kindness. See the Center for MSC website for more details. For all of us, life will present disappointments, losses, and stressors. MSC provides practices that enhance our ability to meet these difficulties with more wisdom, resilience, joy, and spaciousness.

Self-compassion can be learned by anyone, even those who feel uncomfortable when they are good to themselves. It's a courageous attitude that stands up to harm, including any harm that we unwittingly inflict on ourselves through harsh self-criticism. Self-compassion provides emotional strength and resilience, allowing us to relate wholeheartedly to others and be more authentically ourselves.

No previous mindfulness meditation practice is needed! The goal is for participants to directly experience self-compassion and learn practices that evoke self-compassion in daily life.

The Facilitators:
Lindsey Green, M.S., is an advanced graduate student in the University of Washington’s clinical psychology doctoral program. Her research focuses on understanding and promoting the development of emotion regulation in youth with a special focus on supporting caregivers parenting in the context of risk (e.g., financial strain). In clinical settings, Lindsey primarily works with children, teens, and their parents, as well as adults struggling with anxiety.

Joel Grow, PhD, is a clinical psychologist and mindfulness facilitator based at the Seattle Mindfulness Center. A certified teacher of Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), he facilitates MSC groups both in-person and through the Live Online MSC program. He also helped pioneer online MSC groups for men. He is excited to share mindfulness and self-compassion practices, which have been so helpful in enriching his own life and relationships, and he especially welcomes folks who are skeptical or uncertain. He is also a member of the development team for the Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP) program, and he continues to lead MBRP groups and trainings. Before graduate school, Joel co-developed and was lead instructor for a University of WA certificate program for 9 years, and was awarded the UW "Award of teaching excellence".
