Today we practiced the Body Scan again (like we did in session 1). We also discussed the importance of having a support network, in recovery as well as in mindfulness practice. We also reflected on the MBRP course, sharing practices and other experiences that were helpful and that we can imagine continuing to practice in the future.
Session Themes: Recovery and mindfulness practice are both lifelong journeys that require commitment and diligence. This is not an easy voyage. In fact, it can feel at times like swimming upstream. Thus far, we have learned about factors that put us at risk, some skills to help navigate through high-risk situations, and the importance of maintaining lifestyle balance. Hopefully participating in this group has also provided a sense of support and community. Having a support network is crucial to continuing along the path of practice and recovery. Recovery communities can help us recognize signs of relapse and provide support when we feel we are at risk. Having support around our meditation practice can help us sustain our practice and choose to show up for our lives in a mindful, intentional, and compassionate way.
Mindfulness of daily activities: consider small, everyday things you do during your day (washing dishes, brushing teeth) and try one or two out like we did with the raisin exercise, where we slow down and bring our full mindful awareness to the process.
